Janet insisted that she write the blog for this winery.

The sign by the road was pretty crooked and pulling onto the gravel driveway we passed ramshackle barns with old machinery inside. At first glance the outdoor tasting gazebo surrounded by a field of snow covered vines was less than impressive from a distance but, when we parked the car we were greeted by the most enthusiastic welcoming committee- a giant American Foxhound named Bacchus.
That was just the first indication of the wonderful experience we were about to have. The tasting was actually below the gazebo in a room that was built to resemble an ancient European wine cellar. The furnishings were perfect. We sampled six wines. One of them had recently won a Gold Medal (Second Leaf Roussanne) in the San Francisco Chronicle wine competition. All of the wines were outstanding. The Estelle Dessert Wine was sublime, it was like drinking silk. The Syrah was an epiphany, we are so in love with it that we dare not open the one bottle we bought because then we wont have it anymore. The wine guy was great. He taught us things about tasting wine that the previous thirty plus winery visits didn’t. He described perfectly what was going on in my mouth. He did all of this without the smugness so often associated with wine snobs.
Junius Lindsay Wine is in a different league and they are now our new standard by which all other wine tasting will be judged. Wow.
